TRACING THE ROOTS
Tracing his roots in a Georgian village, a Turkish director is denied entry by Armenians once displaced from Turkey, turning his quest into a journey within their collective memory.
SHORT SYNOPSIS
Two centuries after his ancestors left Akhaltsikhe, Georgia, for Turkey, director Can AdiloÄŸlu sets out to recover traces of a past that survives only as a fading village name. Arriving in Georgia, he finds the village now inhabited by Armenians who themselves once fled from Turkey. Refused entry, his personal search transforms into a confrontation with history’s wounds.
Reversing his path, Can follows the Armenians’ story back to Erzurum — their ancestral homeland — where imagination and reality intertwine, and forgotten ties re-emerge in moments of friendship and reconciliation.
